You Are It

I’ve been digging into Joseph Campbell lectures this week. One specific phrase caught my attention:

Tat Tvam Asi, or “you are it.”

In Hinduism, this helps associate the self with the “Absolute.” Being raised Catholic, I’ve been taught that God created us in his likeness, so while we are of God, we are not God.

Tat Tvam Asi is a dense phrase. A quick Google search reveals hundreds of varying interpretations, some of which are conflicting.

For me, being unfamiliar with Hinduism, and entirely uninitiated, the phrase represents a shift from otherness to oneness. It’s a perspective that can quickly changes the way we move through this life.
